DemBiz Presents: Criminal Justice Forum
September 22, 2023 @ 7:30 am - 9:00 am EDT$25.00 – $250.00
DemBiz is proud to welcome Commonwealth’s Attorneys Buta Biberaj, Parisa Dehghani-Tafti, and Steve Descano for our first Criminal Justice Forum. Please join us for an engaging discussion with our NOVA prosecutors, as we touch on criminal justice reform, their tenures, and the upcoming elections.
Buta Biberaj is the first Muslim, first woman, and first immigrant elected to serve as the Commonwealth’s Attorney for Loudoun County, Virginia. Buta Biberaj was born in Montenegro and is of Albanian parentage. Buta and her family emigrated to the United States in 1967. She was raised in the Bronx borough of New York City. She graduated from George Mason University with a B.S. in Education in 1987 and taught elementary school for three years in the Fairfax County Public School system. Buta received her Juris Doctorate from the George Mason University School of Law in 1993.
Parisa Dehghani-Tafti is the Commonwealth’s Attorney for Arlington County and the City of Falls Church. Parisa was first elected to a four-year term in November 2019. She came to the office of Commonwealth’s Attorney with a twenty-year record of criminal justice reform as an innocence protection attorney, a public defender, and a law professor. Parisa sought the Office because, in her own words, ”I always knew what I hoped for in a justice system, and so I finally decided to live inside that hope.”
Steve Descano is the current Fairfax County Commonwealth’s Attorney. He is a veteran, former federal prosecutor, husband, father, and proud Democrat.
