DemBiz 2023 Candidate Series: Senator Chap Petersen & Saddam Salim

Senator Chap Petersen:

Senator Chap Petersen was born and raised in Fairfax City, and has represented Northern Virginia for the past 16 years in the State Senate, having first been elected in November 2007.  Chap previously served a member of the Virginia House of Delegates and the Fairfax City Council.  Chap attended Fairfax High School and is a graduate of the University of Virginia Law School.  In 2017, Chap and his wife Sharon established their own law firm, Chap Petersen & Associates, near the historic Fairfax County Courthouse.  Since then, they have grown that firm to 14 employees, representing many languages and backgrounds.  Their focus is on small-business representation.  Chap still lives in Fairfax City with his wife and four children.

Saddam Salim:

Saddam Azlan Salim is a Bangladeshi-American and a graduate of George Mason University’s Schar School of Policy and Government. His family immigrated to the United States in the early 2000s and has since lived in Fairfax County for over 21 years. He grew up in Northern Virginia, attended Falls Church High School, Northern Virginia Community College and George Mason University for his BA and Masters in Public Administration. In 2022, he completed the Sorensen Institute Emerging Leaders Program at the Weldon Cooper Center for Public Service at the University of Virginia.

Saddam Azlan Salim has worked in Federal Financial Management and Consulting for over 7 years and works for 11th Hour Service located in Falls Church, Virginia providing financial management services to Federal Government clients. He serves as Co-Virginia State Director for South Asians For America, Vice President of the Fairfax Youngs Dems and Second Vice Chair to the 8th Congressional District Committee. Saddam has been the founding member of both API and Black Caucus in Fairfax and an activist for local and state issues.
