Join us for this special event, co-sponsored by 1776, June 20th from 8:00am to 10:00am to hear about what women are doing across the nation and here in Virginia and how we can support them. Emily Cain, Executive Director of Emily’s List, Jessica Post, Executive Director of the Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee and Delegate Charniele Herring, Chair of the House Democratic Caucus Delegate will join a panel moderated by Virginia’s List Chair (and DemBiz board member) Julie Jakopic.
Since 2016 we have seen a blue wave of Democratic women successfully running for office, starting with 11 women flipping House seats in Virginia in 2017. In 2019, we have the opportunity to continue the path and keep the energy going with more than 60 women on the Virginia General Assembly primary and general election ballot.
Emily Cain is a leader for progressive change at a moment when the rights, security and well-being of women and American families are under unprecedented assault by the radical and dangerous policies of the Trump administration and GOP. Emily knows how to fight back. She has been a candidate in tough races and an effective minority leader in the state legislature. She knows how to motivate and galvanize broad coalitions. She knows how to raise money for political races. As a candidate herself, she has a keen understanding of what it takes to run a campaign. Emily brings important outside-the-beltway insight to our work at a time when over 14,000 women from all 50 states are looking to EMILY’s List to run for office and raise their voices in our democracy.
Jessica Post is the Executive Director of the Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee, where she leads the national strategy for electing more state Democrats and winning legislative majorities. Under Post’s leadership and data-driven vision, the DLCC has doubled its political spending to $35 million for the 2018 cycle, flipped nearly 400 legislative seats from red to blue since November 2016, and reclaimed the majority in eight legislative chambers.
